We're enjoying the latest video from NYT's fashion extraordinaire, Bill Cunningham, in which he discusses New York's cutting edge fashion collectors: "There is another, rarer side of fashion, when creative minds allow the art world and other influences to enter into their process.

I'm steadily amazed at what fashion could be if someone would take the corral off it, and let it run free, and if the pub could free their imagination.

...Fashion has become so predictable and so cookie-cutter that it's time to invite the odd world in for collaboration."

Focus: The moreTrees Models

The moreTrees models are a force onto themselves. We have an extended team of talented friends who excel in the fields of yoga, art, music, film, and even cutting-edge science. We like to work with these cultural creatives to infiltrate the industry with their Very Real Beauty.

Each has graciously given their time and energy to help further the moreTrees mission, and over the years, we've had Way Too Much Fun hosting photoshoots in Olympia, LA, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. We even feed our models! Usually with organic Vegan food and mimosas ;)

Enjoy these "moreTrees Classic" gems (see full spread here). We're all about GROWTH; meaning, growing into a new, green, life-affirming culture. In their own way, these models are all involved in the growth and betterment of our culture. Deep Thanks to each and every one of you!:

MoreTrees "Sweetest Sweats" made of Hemp, Organic Cotton, & a touch of lycra. This company is an AWESOME vegan, sustainable, hip find. The clothing isn't made for 12 year old girls, or for that fact, by 12 year old girls either. Skinny, Curvy, All of it girls. This company rocks.

Is Runway Really Needed?

From moreTrees Eco-Style House
Old formats are dying all around us, maybe the runway show will also fall on the wayside. Love the idea of replacing it with film at the very least. So many other potential formats for fashion!

Read the full NYT article HERE.

"...he admitted that it was not any easier — and certainly not any less expensive — to take the image option, even if it avoided the “uncontrollable stress” of the live format.

As a concept, he finds the idea of video sequences exhilarating, setting the mood and conveying the essence of his vision, backed up with a look book focused on the clothes."

TESTIMONIALS

Thanks to all of our dear clientele for their feedback. Here's a sample of their adorations:

im a hip hop artist/producer based in australia... im actually in awe that this has finally happened...your label is a godsend...ive been thinking for along time that the clothing i wear is quite hypocritical as it contains fibres and cottons that are very hurtful to the environment… peace, love and blessings -julian aka inkswel (Hip Hop Artist), Australia

Nice clothes. Organic cotton and fashionable too. Right on.
– Green Yoga Association, Oakland, CA

I have just received my pants that I ordered from you a short while ago. They fit very well, are of excellent quality and craftsmanship, and far exceeded my high hopes – well worth the money. I would like to pass on my appreciation for your courageous and awesome company. May others discover you and be as pleased as I am! - Kerri Roland, Marblehead, MA

i love me some MORE TREES!! – “rootsgirl” Studio City, CA

My trance pants arrived yesterday and if you'd just let me gush for a minute...they are wonderful! I'm always wary of buying pants on line since they are the hardest to fit correctly but I've been looking at your site for a long time and decided to give them a try. Boy am I glad! I especially love how there's buttons instead of drawstring, which is hard to find with eco-friendly clothing but the side pull is brilliant. - Grace S., Bloomington, IL

Love the new stuff. Looking forward to getting my hands on one of the ROOTS tees. Good Vibes! Peace, Love, Unity, Respect
-“yellasone” Silverdale, WA

~~Aloha~~ WOW ~~ I am soooo excited we got your line of clothing out here on the Big Island of Hawaii to sell to our awesome friends and peop's~~ I know it will be a big hit ~~ -Chrystal Fox, Hilo, HI

Welcome to our New Intern!!!

We're proud to welcome our new intern, Alex, into the fold.

She's studying the sociology of fashion via moreTrees, which promises to be both scintillating subject matter and very helpful for us!

A little on Alex: She's modeled with us for our last catalog and one of those shots became the inspiration for a new series loosely called "Wild Life," out of which a T-shirt design was born. So she's already made her mark, and now we're handing a few projects over for her to run with.

Ok STAY WITH ME HERE PEOPLE! Here's a visual of Ms. Alex > being inspiration for a giclee print collage > which in turn inspired the T-shirt design > which demanded a painted version done on wood panel. WOO! there's A LOT of inspiration going on over here!

Seriously, running a clothing company is crazy busytime, especially if you're operating without the minions one can only dream exist at ginormous Parisian fashion houses.

Here, we're sustainable and self-contained, and it's mean to have minions anyway. We're all equal and truly there've been SO MANY TALENTED AND AMAZING hands stirring the pot of yummy organic streetwear we call moreTrees and we're so grateful for each and everyone of them.

And with that said, a warm welcome to Ms. Alexandra!

The Birds and Bees of T-Shirt Design

From moreTrees eco-Style House
Once upon a time, a t-shirt design was born. It's a process, and in this case blended lots of layers over several years. The formula wound up looking something like this:

  • 1 part handmade hemp silk dress

  • 1 part love poems of a certain era of said artist's life written all over said dress

  • 1 part video of artist wearing and dancing in said poetry dress

  • 2 parts still photos from this video, drawn

  • 1 part obsession with said artist's birthday (7.7.77), resulting in lots of group efforts to create the perfect 7 tattoo, which resulted in not a tattoo, but instead, lots and lots of pages with sevens scrawled all over

  • 2 parts research of tibetan buddhist mandala iconography and therefore a study of a tibetan tree icon

  • 1 part watercolor done years ago, found

  • = a collage we call She Who Traverses Through Space, another way of saying "Dakini." Very limited, special edition T-shirts available HERE!

    Christmas for moreTrees Lovers!

It's a start, anyway. Props to all the sane scientists and conservationists who're infiltrating the bureaucratic system in order to essentially save our planet. It's a shame it requires this much negotiating and red tape for something that should really be a moral imperative, but hey, no one said all of humanity was enlightened quite yet, unfortunately. Until that day, we can be grateful for these devoted Earthlings.

Toyota to Sell Plug-In Hybrid in 2011

Especially after watching Who Killed the Electric Car? which is a wonderful documentary about real life corporate conspiracy and why we should already all be zooming around in electric cars. Toyota Motor said Monday that it planned a widespread release of its plug-in hybrid car in 2011 as the company scrambled to gain the upper hand in an increasingly crowded battle over next-generation “green” technology.

moreTrees' Polar Bear Project will donate to Greenbelt Movement

We're more than halfway to our goal of selling out our polar bear polos and Ts to show our solidarity with global cooling projects, most notably, with Wangari Maathai's Greenbelt Movement.

Wangari Maathai won the Nobel Peace Prize for her work in Kenya planting millions of trees despite severe opposition from her government. Unbowed is her inspiring life story and we at moreTrees highly recommend it.

Not only were we blown away by how much Maathai's accomplished, (i.e. pregnant with her 3rd child while receiving her PhD), but by the immersion into country life in Kenya half a century ago.

Plus Maathai's connection with nature reflects our own deep love for it, and brings about both an ache for a greener world and a belief that positive changes will overcome corporate pollution and devastation.

You can learn more about Wangari Maathai's current work at: www.greenbeltmovement.org.

    Made In America

Listen to NPR's On Point segment "Made In America"
    here…

    Made in America
    Aired: Thursday, September 13, 2007 10-11AM ET
    By host Tom Ashbrook

"It's been a long time in the wilderness. But the "Made in the USA" label is packing some cachet again. After poison toys from China, job losses, and eco-disaster images of filthy smokestacks abroad, Americans are getting the itch to buy American again: toys, bikes, even t-shirts.

Some never lost the urge. But in the age of WalMart, with aisles packed from Shanghai, it's been tough. Now some American products are looking like the sure thing -- even chic.

This hour, On Point: We look again at the 'Made in the USA' label, and the new American itch to bring our buying home."
